Beer has been flowing through the veins of this family for over 100 years. Our family began in the tavern business over 100 years ago in Hungary. That tradition was carried over to the United States, with relatives opening taverns and beer distributors. It is only natural that this
family tradition be continued through a unique and extraordinary business such as “3 Sons Dogs & Suds.” This long family tradition began in this immediate family with the opening of a beer distributor in a close knit neighborhood in the city of Pittsburgh’s North Side. William and Barbara opened this family business in a garage at 1931 Rhine Street on April 9, 1933 on Spring Hill. The business remained here until 1953. The business continued to prosper and grow and eventually was sold to William and Barbara’s only son Bill Jr. after Bill Sr. passed away.
Along with his wife, Marion, Bill continued to operate the family business. Unfortunately, public perception thought that bigger was better and customers began to drive distances to buy their beer at large beer warehouses. Bill could see the future coming and decided to get out while the getting was good. He sold the family business after 50 years of operation on April 9, 1983 and began a career with Pittsburgh Brewing Company.
Bill held various sales positions with Pittsburgh Brewing Company including International Sales Manager. It was during this time that he came up with the business plan for “3 Sons Dogs and Sons.” Bill wasn’t sure if his future involved self employment again, so he decided to give his business plan to an associate when he was downsized from Pittsburgh Brewing Company. Bill went to work with Pitt Penn Oil as their International Sales Manager. In 2004, Bill was again downsized and decided to pursue his dream of the establishment you see today.
Bill has moved with his wife Marion to the northern suburbs of Pittsburgh.
